Family First Fact #6

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Fact: Boys are healthier and more successful when they have a strong bond with their mother.

· Greater brain growth in “region important for learning, memory and stress responses"

· Less behavior problems in school

· Greater self-esteem and less depression

· Sense of security and less anxiety

· Able to develop healthier friendships and relationships

· Higher emotional intelligence

Why It Matters: About three million kids are living without a mother, double the amount from 1990.

What You Can Do:

· Gentlemen, think of your future children when selecting a companion, one who will be a committed and strong mother to your kids.

· Children need time to build positive relationships with their mothers, even if they are not in the home; work to make that happen.

· Moms, respect your sons. “Feeling respected fuels feelings of affection in a boy.”

· In conflict, keep words to a few, boys react different than girls when it comes to discussing feelings and difficult topics.

·Boys usually build relationships with dads through activity and play. For moms, it’s simply spending time together, just being “there”.

· Learn to respond to his signals and cues to provide comfort, support and encouragement.
