Family First Fact #4

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Fact: Boys are healthier and more successful when raised with a father in the home.

· "Young men who grow up in homes without fathers are twice as likely to end up in jail as those who come from traditional two-parent families..."

· “Rough play” promotes healthy risk taking, resiliency and independence

· Fathers provide example of how to treat a woman with respect

· Increased self-esteem and sense of well-being

· Better grades and higher scores on achievement tests

· Learn how to regulate their feelings and emotions

Why It Matters: As of 2014, 1 in 4 kids were living in a home without a dad, and boys who grow up with absent fathers are more likely to become absent fathers themselves.

What You Can Do:

· Ladies, think of your future children when selecting a companion, one who will be a committed and strong father to your kids.

· Children need time to build positive relationships with their fathers, even if they are not in the home; work to make that happen.

· Dads, teach your boys how work; a skill, a sport, a hobby, etc. This is a great way to strengthen your relationship.

· Father/son one-on-one time; yard work and chores, throw a ball, fix a snack, a run to the store.

·Go on outings together; hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, bike ride, etc.

· Gentlemen, if you didn't have a good example growing up, break the cycle. Here are some resources for help:
